Westchester County has announced the distribution of sales tax revenue to local municipalities and public school districts. The upcoming quarterly distribution is scheduled for Friday, February 7th, with a total amount of $52,930,066. Of this sum, municipalities will receive $37,923,809 and schools will be allocated $15,006,257.
County Executive Ken Jenkins emphasized the importance of this initiative: “This collaboration allows us to work together for the benefit of our residents, giving local governments the financial breathing room they need to address their community's needs without overburdening taxpayers.”
The program highlights Westchester's commitment to supporting local governments by sharing sales tax revenue at a high level compared to other counties in New York State. In 2024, Westchester County collected $926,674,419 in sales tax revenue. From these collections, $219,164,484—approximately 24%—was shared with municipalities and school districts. The distributions occurred quarterly in February, May, August, and November 2024. Municipalities received $157,043,492 while schools were allocated $62,120,992.
By allocating part of its sales tax revenues to cities and towns (excluding Mount Vernon, White Plains,Yonkers, and New Rochelle), Westchester County aims to alleviate financial pressures on local budgets. This approach helps keep property taxes lower than they might otherwise be and provides direct relief to residents while enabling local governments to maintain essential services.
The sales tax share back program is an integral part of Westchester County's strategy to foster strong partnerships with local governments while focusing on fiscal responsibility and community investment.
