Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has expressed strong opposition to Con Edison's proposed rate hikes. He criticized the increases as a "blatant cash grab" and plans to participate in an online hearing by the Public Service Commission in early April. Additionally, Jenkins is advocating for an in-person hearing in Westchester County to allow residents and business owners to express their concerns directly.
Jenkins stated, "The Public Service Commission should pull the plug on this proposal and demand a plan that actually works for consumers, not just Con Ed’s bottom line." He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, arguing that excessive costs should not be passed onto consumers without these elements.
The New York State Public Service Commission is currently reviewing Con Edison's proposed rate hike for 2026. The proposal suggests an 11.4% increase in electricity rates and a 13.3% rise in natural gas rates. A final decision on these rates will be made after a comprehensive review process lasting several months.
Jenkins added, "Westchester families and businesses deserve to be heard. If Con Edison truly believes this rate hike is justified, they should face the public and explain their reasoning."
