Following the closure of the Social Security Office in White Plains, Westchester County officials have taken steps to maintain local access to essential services. County Executive Ken Jenkins and U.S. Congressman George Latimer have offered county-owned space to the federal government for a new Social Security Office.

"Our priority is ensuring that Westchester County maintains access to essential services," Jenkins stated. He emphasized the commitment to supporting seniors, individuals with disabilities, and others by keeping Social Security resources available in White Plains. Jenkins expressed gratitude towards Congressman Latimer for collaborating on this initiative.

Latimer highlighted the impact of the office's closure, noting that it would force seniors and people with disabilities to travel long distances, potentially as far as New Haven and Albany, at greater expense. "But that does not have to happen," he said. Latimer expressed his willingness to work with Jenkins and other government officials to keep these services in White Plains.

County officials are now collaborating with federal representatives to identify potential locations and expedite the establishment of a new office.
