Westchester County is set to conduct police officer civil service examinations for the first time in four years, scheduled for May 3 or May 4. Interested applicants must file by February 24 to participate.
County Executive Ken Jenkins emphasized the importance of diversity among applicants, stating that both the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Human Resources will collaborate with various organizations to promote this goal. "The ongoing effort to increase diversity in our police departments begins with ensuring that a diverse applicant pool takes these exams. Police departments are more effective when they reflect the communities they serve. My dad was a police officer and I know from his experience how rewarding this career can be," Jenkins remarked.
The upcoming exams, managed by the Department of Human Resources, aim to create a list of eligible candidates for positions within the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, as well as in Rye, Peekskill, and other towns and villages throughout the county.
Public Safety Commissioner Terrance Raynor encouraged local residents interested in policing careers to seize this opportunity: “I urge any Westchester resident interested in a police career to take advantage of this opportunity. These exams only come around once every four years. Don’t miss out on the chance to have a fulfilling career where you can make a difference every day in the community where you serve.”
Applications for these civil service exams are exclusively accepted online via Westchester County's official website or through scanning a QR code provided in exam announcements. Those intending to apply for both Examination #60-012780 (Police Officer) and Examination #60-012790 (Police Officer Spanish Speaking) need separate applications and fees for each.
Given an expected high number of applicants, tests may be scheduled on either Saturday or Sunday during the exam weekend. Admission notices will specify details regarding test timings and locations.
