Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins hosted a Lunar New Year celebration at the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains. The event highlighted the cultural and economic contributions of the Asian American community to Westchester County. Traditional décor, music, and light refreshments were part of the celebration, showcasing the cultural significance of this holiday.
Lunar New Year is celebrated by various cultures across Asia and marks the beginning of the lunar calendar. It is associated with traditions symbolizing renewal, prosperity, and unity. The holiday involves family reunions, festive meals, and cultural performances. In 2025, it is recognized as the year of the Wood Snake, representing resourcefulness, transformation, and progress.
Ken Jenkins remarked: “Lunar New Year is not only a time for joy and reflection, but it also reminds us of the incredible diversity that makes Westchester County so special. The Asian American community has played a key role in shaping our County’s identity, contributing to its economy, culture and civic life. It is a privilege to honor their heritage and celebrate the shared values that unite us as neighbors.”
Marjorie Hsu, Chair of the Asian American Advisory Board stated: “The Lunar New Year holds immense significance for millions of people worldwide, symbolizing new beginnings, unity and optimism for the year ahead. Martha Lopez, Director of Minority and Women-Owned Business Development added: “Recognizing cultural celebrations like Lunar New Year is essential to building an inclusive community.
