Westchester County Executive George Latimer has officially announced his resignation after serving for seven years. Latimer, who began his tenure as the ninth County Executive on January 1, 2018, will transition to a new role as a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 16th Congressional District. His congressional term is set to begin on January 3, 2025.

In a statement, Latimer expressed gratitude for his time in office: “Serving as Westchester County Executive has been the greatest honor of my life, and I am deeply appreciative of the kindnesses I have been shown since I first came into office in 2018. Westchester County is a special place, united by common goals of justice, fairness and opportunity for all. We accomplished great things over the past seven years but there is so much more to do, and as I prepare to take the next step in my public service journey, I firmly believe that this County’s best days are still ahead.”

Latimer plans to deliver his farewell address on Monday, December 30 at 2 p.m., with his resignation becoming effective on Thursday, January 2 at 12:01 p.m.
