Yonkers City School District had the highest enrollment among Westchester County school districts, welcoming 24,271 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51% of them were boys, and 49% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were Hispanic, making up 61.8% of Yonkers City School District's total enrollment.

Among the 48 districts in Westchester County, New Rochelle City School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 10,113 students, while Mount Vernon School District welcomed 6,996 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Yonkers City School District roughly covers schools within Westchester County and has a main office in Yonkers.

In the previous school year, Yonkers City School District also had the highest number of students among Westchester County districts.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
