In White Plains, Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins led a celebration of Irish Heritage Month with a flag ceremony and reception at the Michaelian Office Building. The event aimed to honor the contributions of Irish Americans to the county's history and culture, drawing attendance from community organizations, residents, and local leaders.
The ceremony underscored the resilience, achievements, and lasting impact of the Irish community in Westchester County. Over generations, this community has been integral in areas such as public service, education, business, and the arts. The flag ceremony highlighted the county's dedication to honoring this legacy while celebrating its diverse cultural heritage.
County Executive Ken Jenkins remarked on the significance of these contributions: "The Irish community has made significant contributions to the growth and success of Westchester County. Their dedication to family, faith and hard work has shaped our communities and enriched our cultural landscape. As we celebrate Irish Heritage Month, we recognize the generations of Irish Americans and their ancestors who have helped build this County and continue to make a positive impact every day. We proudly celebrate their heritage and honor the values they bring to Westchester."
Deputy County Executive Richard Wishnie added: "Irish Heritage Month is an opportunity to reflect on the incredible sacrifices and achievements of Irish immigrants and their descendants. The Irish community has played a key role in building strong neighborhoods and fostering a spirit of unity and resilience. This celebration is a tribute to that history and a reminder of the cultural richness that makes Westchester County such a special place."
Following the ceremony, attendees gathered for a networking reception featuring traditional Irish food in the County Executive's office. This gathering provided an opportunity for community leaders, elected officials, and residents to connect over shared cultural ties. Throughout March, Westchester County will display the Irish national flag outside the Michaelian Office Building.
