Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, alongside the Westchester County African American Advisory Board (AAAB), unveiled the findings of "Blueprint for Change," a report focused on the quality of life of African American residents in Westchester. The study, conducted by Edwards Consulting Group LLC, evaluated four key areas: economic development, education, housing, and health and human services. Based on this analysis, the AAAB formulated 14 recommendations aimed at enhancing county policies and programs to better serve Black residents.
Ken Jenkins emphasized the importance of such studies in understanding potential issues affecting residents. He stated: “The African American Advisory Board’s role is to advise the County Executive and the Board of Legislators, and studies like the Blueprint for Change help us gather necessary insights into the potential problems that may influence our residents. I want to thank the African American Advisory Board for taking the time to develop this study, and identify key areas for improvement. Together we will continue to move Westchester County forward, fostering an inclusive and more supportive environment for all, regardless of race, ethnicity or economic status.”
Barbara Edwards, Chair of the African American Advisory Board, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “The launch of the Blueprint for Change marks a pivotal moment for Westchester County. As Chair of the African American Advisory Board, I am proud to support this comprehensive document that not only highlights the profound impact of diversity as relates to economic development, education, housing, health and human services but it also paves that way for corrective actions. This blueprint is more than a document; it is a strategic commitment to equity and inclusion for all. Together we can ensure that every member of our County thrives if we give serious consideration to the recommendations proposed in this very impactful research.”
The initial edition of "Blueprint for Change" was published in 2010. The second edition's recommendations cover areas such as economic development, housing, and education.
