The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has declared that the sale of MetroCards will cease on December 31, 2025. This change is part of a transition to the OMNY tap-and-go payment system, which will become the primary method for fare payments. Westchester County's Bee-Line Bus System will also adopt this new system, with further details expected in the coming months. Despite this shift, MetroCards will still be accepted into early 2026 as the transition progresses. Cash payments will continue to be an option on Bee-Line buses.

OMNY enables riders to pay by tapping contactless credit and debit cards, digital wallets, or OMNY cards. For those who prefer cash transactions, OMNY cards can be purchased and reloaded at retail locations, online platforms, or vending machines.

Ken Jenkins, Westchester County Executive, stated: “The Bee-Line System is a vital transportation link for so many Westchester residents. As the MTA moves toward a modern, contactless fare system, we are committed to ensuring our Bee-Line riders have the information and resources they need to make this transition as smooth as possible. Tap-and-go technology is designed to make commuting easier, and we’re committed to helping our residents adapt to this new system.”

Deputy County Executive Richard Wishnie commented: “The transition to OMNY is an important step in modernizing our public transportation system. Tap-and-go technology is simple and fast and provides greater flexibility for our residents and visitors. We will continue working closely with the MTA to ensure Bee-Line riders are well-informed and prepared for this change.” – Pending Approval

Until Bee-Line buses accept payments via OMNY, fares paid through this new system cannot be used as valid transfers on Bee-Line routes. Passengers who frequently transfer between New York City Transit services should continue using MetroCards until OMNY becomes operational on Bee-Line buses.

Announcements regarding when OMNY will be fully implemented on Bee-Line buses are anticipated later this year. Riders can stay updated by visiting transportation.westchestergov.com.
