Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has put forward legislation to extend the Inter-Municipal Agreement (IMA) with the Village of Sleepy Hollow, allowing it to continue managing Kingsland Point Park until December 31, 2027. This agreement, in place since 2003, permits Sleepy Hollow to oversee the park's 18 acres along the Hudson River, which includes the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse operated by County Parks.
Jenkins emphasized Sleepy Hollow's effective management of the park over the past two decades. He stated: "Sleepy Hollow has been a tremendous steward of Kingsland Point Park and a partner to Westchester County and our nationally accredited parks over the last 22 years." He urged the Board of Legislators to support this extension as beneficial for both the county and Sleepy Hollow residents.
Kingsland Point Park features amenities such as a gazebo, pavilions, playgrounds, a dog park, and community art installations. The recently restored Tarrytown Lighthouse is also located within its bounds.
Mayor Martin Rutyna of Sleepy Hollow remarked on the park's significance: "Kingsland Point Park is a beloved treasure of Sleepy Hollow, offering breathtaking views of the Hudson River and a space for our residents to gather, play, and reflect." He expressed pride in maintaining and enhancing the park since 2003 and highlighted the importance of extending this partnership with Westchester County.
Kathy O’Connor from Westchester County’s Department of Parks added: “The Park’s stunning setting next to the Hudson makes it the perfect location to enjoy its ballfields, picnic areas, playground and opportunities to hike and fish.” She noted that extending this agreement would strengthen their collaboration with Sleepy Hollow in maintaining and conserving Kingsland Point Park.
