Westchester County has been awarded $212,715.54 for its involvement in the Demand Response program run by NYISO and ConEdison. This initiative is aimed at reducing energy consumption and ensuring grid reliability during peak usage times to prevent blackouts. NuEnergen, the county's Demand Response provider, presented a ceremonial check to recognize these efforts.
The program helps manage grid stability and avoids the construction of new carbon-intensive power plants. Westchester County earned $31,196.62 during winter and $181,518.95 over summer, highlighting the program's importance throughout the year. By cutting down on power use during critical periods, the county not only gains revenue but also aids environmental conservation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing grid strain.
County Executive Ken Jenkins stated: "Our participation in the Demand Response program is a prime example of how Westchester County is leading the way in energy conservation and environmental stewardship." He emphasized that this initiative provides financial benefits that can be reinvested into the community while supporting emission reduction and grid stability.
Peter McCartt, Director of Energy Conservation and Sustainability, noted: "The Demand Response program allows our County to take meaningful action in addressing energy challenges faced by the energy transition." He pointed out that reducing energy use during high demand periods helps stabilize the grid and improve air quality.
Scott Besada from NuEnergen praised Westchester County for its leadership in energy conservation: "Their active participation in the Demand Response programs reflects a forward-looking energy management approach that benefits the County and the broader region."
Dr. Kasi Rengasamy, President at Environmental Energy Solutions (EES), commented on how Demand Response programs support environmental compliance: "Environmental Energy Solutions (EES), a subsidiary of NuEnergen, is proud to be a part of the county's effort in energy savings."
Westchester County's engagement with this program aligns with broader goals to balance supply and demand on the grid while promoting environmental sustainability. The county remains dedicated to pursuing opportunities that align with New York State's clean energy objectives.
