Richard G. Wishnie appointed deputy county executive for Westchester

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has announced the appointment of Richard G. Wishnie as Deputy County Executive. Wishnie, who has previously served as Acting County Executive and Westchester County Commissioner of Emergency Services, brings extensive experience in public service and leadership within Westchester County.

Jenkins praised Wishnie's dedication to public service, stating: “Richard exemplifies what it means to serve the public with integrity, vision, and dedication. I can think of no better person to fill this role, and it is my honor to appoint him and serve alongside him. His leadership and wealth of experience make him the ideal choice to continue driving our County forward.”

Wishnie expressed his commitment to his new role by saying: “It is an honor to step into this role and continue serving the residents of Westchester County. I am committed to working alongside County Executive Jenkins and our dedicated team to ensure Westchester remains a beacon of excellence in government and community service.”

With a career that began on the Westchester County Board of Legislators in 1993, Wishnie represented several communities for six terms while focusing on fiscal responsibility and securing funding for essential services. His previous roles also include Councilman and Supervisor for the Town of Ossining.

Beyond his political career, Wishnie has held numerous leadership positions such as Chairman of various health organizations, Vice-Chairman of the Mid Hudson Ambulance District, Officer at the Ossining Chamber of Commerce, President of the Ossining Jaycees, Director at United Way of Northern Westchester, among others.

His contributions have been recognized through honors like having a park named after him in Ossining in 2006. He also holds a position on multiple boards including the Westchester Medical Center Board of Directors.

Wishnie is a graduate from Empire State College's Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies with a Bachelor’s degree in Labor Studies. He currently resides in Somers with his wife Marilyn.
