Westchester County recently held a Diverse Abilities Job Fair as part of its ongoing commitment to inclusivity in the workforce. The event, hosted by the Westchester County Office of Economic Development on October 9 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, attracted over 250 job seekers and nearly 60 employers and resource providers.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer stated, “Individuals of all abilities contribute to an inclusive, productive, and dynamic workforce. We were proud to offer a job fair dedicated to differently-abled individuals and have been impressed by the attendance numbers for each of the Diverse Abilities Job Fairs.”

Evan Latainer, Director of the Westchester County Office of People with Disabilities, emphasized the importance of breaking down employment barriers for those with disabilities. “We are grateful to our partners and the community for their continued support of these events,” he said.

Bridget Gibbons, Director of the Westchester County Office of Economic Development, noted that Westchester County is committed to creating job opportunities for all who seek employment. She added, “We consistently hear from employers that they are impressed with the candidates who come to these events, and we are glad to be a resource for connecting differently-abled individuals with right fit employers.”

Shari Rosen Ascher, Director of Policy and Programs for Small Business and Chambers of Commerce in Westchester County, highlighted collaboration as key to the event's success. She expressed gratitude towards open-minded employers and talented candidates who contributed to making it successful.

The job fair featured participation from numerous organizations including ACCES-VR American Sugar Refining, Inc., The Arc Westchester, Ascend Services among others. Informational sessions were also conducted prior to the event to ensure a productive experience for both employers and job seekers.
