Westchester County Executive George Latimer has expressed his support for the New York State law aimed at protecting the Hudson River. In a recent statement, Latimer emphasized the importance of safeguarding the health and integrity of the waterways in the region.
Latimer stated, “As County Executive of Westchester County, I firmly stand behind the New York State law aimed at protecting the Hudson River, a cherished gem for recreation and tourism in our region. The State has rightfully taken measures to safeguard the health and integrity of our waterways."
The County Executive also highlighted the significance of a law passed in 2023 that prohibits the movement of any radiological substance into the Hudson River during the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. He noted that this law reflects a shared commitment to environmental protection and public safety, as well as the ecological and economic value that the Hudson River holds for local communities.
Latimer further emphasized the collective effort to protect the river, stating, “Five County Executives, of both political parties, have stood up for protecting this river.” He concluded by expressing his belief that the State has acted in the best interest of residents and the environment.
