Westchester County Board of Health Presents 2024 Public Health Awards
Westchester County Board of Health presented the 2024 Public Health Awards on April 3, 2024, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to public health in the community. County Executive George Latimer, alongside the board, recognized the outstanding achievements of two adults and one student during National Public Health Week.
Latimer commended the dedication of the recipients, stating, "Today, during National Public Health Week, we honor two individuals whose efforts ensure that emergency responders in Westchester are well-prepared to answer our calls, and a student who persistently advocates for residents who wrestle with mental health challenges and addictions." He emphasized the importance of their work in preserving and promoting the health of Westchester residents.
Among the honorees was David Raizen, President of the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps, who expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am honored to be recognized and to share the spotlight with the men and women of the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps, who continually work to improve their skills and to better serve our community."
Another recipient, Ashley Madden, a student from Pleasantville, was awarded for her advocacy work in mental health. Madden shared, "I greatly appreciate this recognition of my commitment to community service. As a youth advocate, my mission is to empower individuals to address their mental health needs with compassion and resilience."
Dr. Emil Nigro of Phelps Hospital Northwell Health received the Commissioner's Award for his dedication to emergency medicine. Nigro expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am honored to be given the Commissioner’s Award by Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD. As the medical director of the Hoch Center, I value the partnership we have with the County’s Health Department and the Emergency Services Department and frontline staff."
The awards ceremony highlighted the essential role of public health in Westchester and celebrated the exemplary service of the recipients in improving the well-being of the community.
