Mayor Spano Presents Yonkers “Women Of Distinction” Awards in Honor of Women’s History Month

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano recently honored exceptional women in the community by presenting the "Women of Distinction" Awards in celebration of Women's History Month. The awards ceremony, which took place at Yonkers City Hall on March 27th, recognized the remarkable achievements and contributions of several outstanding women.

Among the honorees was Detective Martinez, a dedicated member of the Yonkers Police Department, who was commended for her compassion and commitment to solving cold cases and supporting community members. Sister Mary Alice, the principal of St. John the Baptist School, was acknowledged for her unwavering dedication to the growth and development of young minds over her extensive career.

Yolanda, a community activist and founder of All Access Yonkers, was recognized for her efforts in supporting teen mothers, local pantries, and providing scholarships and resources to individuals in need. The ceremony also honored an advertising and media expert known for her work with Fortune 500 brands and her advocacy for education and human rights for children.

Additionally, Phylisha, a prominent figure in the Yonkers arts scene and Westchester County Poet Laureate, was celebrated for her contributions to the community through arts and poetry programs. Hope, a multi-talented individual who co-founded community-based organizations and supports veterans and their families, was also among the distinguished honorees.

"These women have exemplified outstanding achievement and leadership in Yonkers, setting an example for other women who aspire to success," Mayor Spano remarked during the ceremony.

The City of Yonkers, known as the gateway to the Hudson Valley, boasts a rich history as a major trading and industrial center. Today, Yonkers is recognized for its vibrant arts district, numerous parks, and status as home to the largest film production studios in the Northeast.

The "Women of Distinction" Awards serve as a testament to the valuable contributions of women in Yonkers, highlighting their significant impact on the community and beyond.
