Yonkers, NY- The Yonkers Police Department announced today that they have made an arrest in connection with the fatal motor vehicle accident that took the life of a young man earlier this week.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, March 25, 2024, involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the area of 632 Van Cortlandt Park Avenue. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Jadon Bennett of Yonkers, NY, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.

According to investigators, Bennett was involved in a verbal altercation with a male in a white Mercedes-Benz sedan, which escalated and led to the suspect accelerating his vehicle at Bennett, causing his death before fleeing the scene. It was also revealed that Bennett was in possession of a firearm during the altercation, although no shots were fired.

The suspect, a 17-year-old whose identity is protected due to being a minor, was located at a residence in East Meadow, New York, on March 26, 2024, and taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, a felony in New York.

In a statement, the Yonkers Police Department expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and emphasized the importance of finding positive ways to resolve disputes to prevent such tragic incidents from happening.

The case is now in the hands of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution, with further information to be released as it becomes available.

Booking charges against the suspect are considered accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
