--New Rochelle increases parking opportunities in its Downtown by adding parking spaces at the newly constructed garage located at 25 Maple Avenue –

Residents and visitors to New Rochelle’s downtown will now notice another example of the City’s strategic investments into the function and feel of our community, this time with a reimagined look and experience to Maple Avenue. Residents and visitors to New Rochelle’s downtown will see the transformation of the multi-year development effort, which led to an elevated role and improved overall aesthetic for the surface lot at 25 Maple Avenue, converting the space into a multi-level garage within the new mixed-use development for the community. The garage opened to the public on May 10.

The appealing new construction will provide 200 municipal parking spaces for businesses downtown and residents looking for additional parking options. The parking garage reestablishes the 113 municipal parking spaces that existed in the surface lot, and adds 87 new spaces to this location. This introduction of additional publicly available parking will encompass 70,000 square feet and include 20 EV charging stations for those driving hybrid and fully electric vehicles.

The clean, modern facility supports the growth and evolution of downtown businesses and invites residents and visitors to the city’s downtown. The newly constructed garage will function as an additional tool to help make the overall experience of working, visiting, and enjoying all things in New Rochelle more pleasant and convenient.

New Rochelle residents will benefit from the return of Maple Avenue to a two-way traffic flow. On-street metered parking has been re-installed on the east side of Maple Avenue, which will also work to add more available parking spaces for residents efficiently while supporting local businesses.

“The success of the Maple Avenue Garage project is a prime example of how New Rochelle is working today, to position the community for its growing future,” said Martha López-Hanratty, New Rochelle Councilwoman for District 4. “New Rochelle takes pride in finding new ways to invest in its infrastructure and community facilities, and the new garage on Maple Avenue is a living testament to this.”

“Upgrading and modernizing our municipal lots is an important component of our ongoing downtown revitalization,” said City Manager Kathleen Gill. “The new Maple Avenue Garage now offers even more parking options for the surrounding neighborhood and Main Street, along with a number of key amenities.”
