Westchester County Executive George Latimer has urged the Biden administration to address public concerns regarding recent drone sightings in the area. This request follows increased unease among residents due to air travel disruptions and unclear explanations about the drones' origins and purposes.
Latimer communicated his concerns in a letter to President Joe Biden, highlighting the fear and uncertainty among Westchester County residents after Stewart International Airport in Orange County was temporarily shut down over drone-related issues. He stressed the importance of transparency and reliable information to mitigate fears and prevent conspiracy theories from spreading.
"Residents are worried that their government is unable to identify these drones; they express trepidation over holiday travel to see and receive family, particularly from the Westchester County Airport," Latimer stated. "With an absence of answers, our residents are vulnerable to insidious conspiracy theories or solutions peddled by fringe ideologues."
Latimer also voiced support for Senator Chuck Schumer's proposal to implement advanced drone detection technology, which could help provide quick responses to similar incidents in the future.
