City of White Plains Seeks Nominations for 2023 Memorial Day Honoree

Originally called Decoration Day, from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. Each May the City of White Plains honors our fallen heroes with a parade followed by a ceremony at the White Plains Rural Ceremony on North Broadway.

Here is your chance to nominate a deserving U.S. veteran or current member of the Armed Forces.  

The Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 29th beginning at 10 AM.

Selection criteria:  

  • Must be available to attend the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

  • Must currently reside in White Plains

  • Must be a U.S. veteran or currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces

  • U.S. veteran must have received an honorable discharge

The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 17.

All nominations will be evaluated by the Mayor’s Memorial and Veterans Day Board.

or can be picked at the Recreation & Parks Office at 85 Gedney Way, Monday through Friday  8:30 am – 5:30 pm or Saturday 9 am – noon. 

Completed nomination forms may be scanned and emailed to Mary Carey at mcarey@whiteplainsny.gov  or can be dropped off at the Recreation and Parks Office Attention: Sia Tofano.
