To provide valuable work skills and professional training to special needs youth and young adults, the City of New Rochelle is launching a new summer employment program through the New Rochelle Youth Bureau.

 The “Access Equestrian” program, to be created with the assistance of Volunteer New York!, will provide youth and young adults ages 14-21 with job readiness skills, training, and hands-on work experience. Access Equestrian is an adaptive riding program in Westchester County that serves youth and adults with a broad range of disabilities, facilitating active community engagement and professional growth.

 “Access to good summer jobs is so important for the young people in our community, providing valuable life skills along with the financial benefit of a paycheck. However, mainstream opportunities often aren’t suitable for those with special needs. We are excited to launch this new pilot program that offers a meaningful work experience along with the additional oversight and support needed for these youth to succeed,” said City Manager Kathleen Gill.

 The Access Equestrian program is the newest part of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau’s annual Summer Employment initiative that operates 20-25 hours per week for six weeks during July and August and pays $15 per hour.
