Westchester County issued the following announcement on July 15.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer was joined by Department of Planning Commissioner Norma Drummond, and Assistant to the County Executive Blanca Lopez for a Facebook LIVE discussion on the County’s response to the 2020 Census.
Latimer discussed Westchester County’s overall response rate thus far in the 2020 Census, as well as new initiatives the County is undertaking to achieve an accurate count in the Census.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Census Bureau has extended the deadline to complete the Census to Oct. 31, 2020, and County Executive George Latimer is asking all residents to help Westchester get counted. Westchester County Government has created new Census commercials in English and in Spanish built around the current response rate of approximately 60 percent of the county’s housing units. The commercials will be airing on local media, to encourage everyone to participate in the 2020 Census.
Latimer said: “We understand that our focus may have shifted these past few months in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, it is still critical that all Westchester County residents participate in the 2020 Census. Filling out your Census form only takes a few minutes, and the potential loss of dollars and representation is what is at stake here. Please help Westchester County by partaking in the 2020 Census.”
There is still time to fill out your household U.S. Census form, and Westchester County depends on it. An accurate count enables Westchester County to receive billions of dollars in state and federal funding that is allocated based on population, and can be used for our schools, infrastructure, roads, hospitals, fire departments and after school programs.
