The Westchester County Youth Bureau has announced the release of the 2024-2025 Request for Proposals (RFP) for two key programs: Youth Team Sports Programs (YTS) and Youth Sports & Education Programs (YSE).

Youth Team Sports funding aims to support team sports operations for youth under 18. Eligible not-for-profit and community-based organizations can apply for up to $50,000. These programs are designed to provide recreational outlets, enhance physical and mental wellness, develop social and leadership skills, promote teamwork, and break down societal barriers.

Youth Sports & Education funding targets youth development through non-competitive sports programs for underserved youth aged six to 17. This includes organized activities such as yoga, hiking, dance, and other active pursuits. Eligible local not-for-profits, municipalities, and local youth bureaus can apply for up to $25,000. The initiative encourages applications from detention facilities, residential runaway and homeless youth programs, and other congregate residential settings supporting disconnected youth.

The RFPs require applicants to demonstrate coordination and implementation of relevant activities. Both proposals are available on the Westchester County Youth Bureau’s website.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer emphasized the importance of these programs: “Youth sports programs, whether competitive or recreational are critical to keeping our kids engaged, healthy and off the streets. These are opportunities to develop athletic skills, make friends and learn important lessons that will serve them well throughout their lives.”

Westchester County Youth Bureau Executive Director Ernest McFadden highlighted health benefits: “With increasing rates of obesity and pre-diabetes among children and youth across the nation, we are actively working to encourage healthy lifestyles and physical well-being. Participating in team sports and active movement are not just about physical fitness; they are crucial for building character.”

Further details can be found on the Westchester County Youth Bureau’s website.
