Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities Food Scrap Recycling Program

93

Wondering where to store food scraps until they can be brought to a drop off site as part of a food scrap recycling program?

Many municipalities with programs sell kits, including countertop containers, BPI certified compostable bags, and small garbage pails, to residents at cost. Alternatively, many stores sell countertop compost containers which can be paired with BPI certified compostable bags.

Leftover food scraps can also be stored in your freezer until they can be brought to a drop off site.

Although bags used as part of food scrap recycling programs must be BPI certified compostable, residents can opt not to use a bag and just clean out containers when emptied.
