The City of Yonkers is now accepting nominations for its annual “Women of Distinction” Award, which honors women who have made significant contributions to the local community. The award ceremony is held every March during Women’s History Month.

According to Mayor Mike Spano, “Yonkers takes great pride in the countless women whose leadership, service, and dedication strengthen and elevate our community. Whether they are educators, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, or community advocates, the women of Yonkers continue to make extraordinary contributions that move our city forward. I encourage every resident to recognize the exceptional women in their lives by submitting a nomination for our Women of Distinction awards. This is our moment to honor their achievements, highlight their impact, and inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.”

Nominations can be submitted at www.YonkersNY.gov/women until Thursday, March 12. Winners will be chosen by the Mayor’s Women’s Advisory Board in collaboration with the mayor. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 pm at Yonkers City Hall.

Women’s History Month began as “Women’s History Week” after Congress passed a resolution in 1981. It was expanded in 1987 when March was officially declared Women’s History Month nationwide.
