The White Plains Police Department will host a car seat check-up event on March 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at White Plains High School, according to an announcement released on Mar. 24.
The event aims to help parents and caregivers ensure that their child safety seats are installed and used correctly, addressing common mistakes that can compromise children’s safety in vehicles.
According to the organizers, research indicates that four out of five child safety seats are used incorrectly, with an average of three mistakes per seat. At the event, trained White Plains Police Officers will demonstrate proper installation techniques and check for any recalls or defects in the seats. Officers will also verify that each seat is age-appropriate for the child and properly secured.
“By attending the car seat check, a trained White Plains Police Officer will work with you to demonstrate the safest way to install and properly use your child safety seat,” organizers said. “Officers will ensure that your seat is safe, free of recalls or defects, age-appropriate for your child, and installed correctly.”
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee is sponsoring this initiative as part of ongoing efforts to promote traffic safety within the community.
