As May begins, Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins made a statement recognizing Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Jenkins highlighted the importance of honoring the cultural traditions and contributions of the AAPI community both in Westchester County and across the nation.
The county executive stated, “As we begin Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, let us honor the rich cultural traditions and contributions of the AAPI community here in Westchester County and across the country.” He emphasized that the month serves to celebrate the achievements, resilience, and strength that have been central to the AAPI experience.
Jenkins also addressed the challenges faced by the AAPI community, including increased instances of anti-Asian hate and discrimination. He reassured the community of Westchester County’s commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive place where diversity is cherished and protected.
In his statement, Jenkins urged individuals to use this month as a time for reflection, learning, and standing in unity with the AAPI community. He said, “During this time of reflection and celebration, let us all take a moment to learn more, listen more and stand together in honoring the legacy and enduring impact of our AAPI community.”
