A Heat Advisory has been issued for Westchester County by the National Weather Service, remaining in effect through Wednesday, July 30 at 8 p.m. Forecasts indicate that heat index values will reach between the upper 90s and lower 100s during this period.
Starting Wednesday, isolated thunderstorms are possible and may result in flash flooding. Temperatures are expected to be around 97 degrees, with rain predicted to continue through Friday afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are also anticipated over these three days.
The Westchester County Health Department is urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities, check on vulnerable individuals such as seniors and those with chronic health conditions, and ensure pets kept outdoors have sufficient shade and water. The department reminds residents not to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles due to the risk of rapid temperature increases.
“Seniors, children and those with chronic health problems are at an increased risk of heat illness. Those who lack air conditioning can visit a cooling center if their home becomes too warm. The advisory comes as extreme heat events have become more frequent in recent years across New York State.
