The Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities is set to hold its final compost giveaway event of 2025 on Sunday, October 19, at the Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF) in Valhalla. The event will distribute compost made at the department’s CompostED site, which serves as a small-scale compost education and demonstration program. The CompostED site processes up to two tons of food scraps each week.

Residents who register for the event will have the opportunity to receive compost and interact with CompostED staff. Staff will be available to discuss the benefits of local composting initiatives and share educational resources with the community.

The CompostED Program also provides facility tours for those interested in learning more about composting. Residents can schedule a tour or obtain more information by contacting the Department of Environmental Facilities, visiting the website at environment.westchestergov.com, or calling the Recycling HelpLine at (914) 813-5425.
