The Westchester County Youth Bureau has opened applications for three funding opportunities for the 2025-2026 period. The bureau is seeking proposals from eligible community-based organizations to support youth development, team sports, and sports and education programs throughout Westchester County. Funding is provided by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
The Youth Development Programs initiative offers grants up to $30,000 to local non-profit organizations. These funds aim to support a variety of services for individuals aged 21 and under, such as leadership training, mentoring, economic security initiatives like career development and life skills, seasonal activities promoting physical health, out-of-school educational programming, anti-trafficking supports, and family conflict resolution.
For the Youth Team Sports category, eligible non-profits and community groups can apply for up to $50,000 in funding. The goal is to provide recreational team sports opportunities for those under 18 years old in Westchester County. These programs are intended not only to offer recreation but also to foster physical and mental wellness while helping participants develop social skills and break down barriers.
A third opportunity targets Youth Sports & Education programs serving underserved youth ages 6 to 17 years old. Grants of up to $30,000 are available for general sports activities that may include fitness pursuits like yoga or dance. Local non-profits, municipalities, youth bureaus, detention facilities, residential runaway shelters, and other settings that support disconnected youth are encouraged to apply.
Westchester County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins stated: “All of the programs the Westchester County Youth Bureau funds through the RFP process — be they competitive or recreational sports programs or focused on personal development and growth — are essential to improving the physical health, emotional well-being and chances for success as adults of our young people, particularly those with less access to resources.”
Ernest McFadden, Executive Director of the Westchester County Youth Bureau added: “The Westchester County Youth Bureau is proud to support programs that uplift, empower and engage our youth. Through this funding opportunity, we are seeking partners who share our vision of equity, growth and excellence in youth development and education. When we invest in youth development and education, we invest in safer neighborhoods, healthier communities, and a more just society. These funds are a tool for transformation.”
Detailed application criteria can be found on the bureau’s website at https://youth.westchestergov.com/. Proposals must be submitted by email no later than September 24, 2025 at 3 p.m., with limited provisions for in-person delivery at the bureau’s White Plains office.
