In White Plains, NY, the Westchester County Youth Bureau and the Westchester County Youth Board held their annual Sheros Awards ceremony to honor three notable community leaders during Women’s History Month. The event took place on March 25 in the Rotunda of the Michaelian Office Building.
The award recipients were Rikki Dee Childs, Vice President of Programs at Big Brothers Big Sisters; Caitlin Leon, Director for Training and Digital Equity at Westchester Jewish Community Services; and Eileen Torres, Director of Youth Services at Lifting Up Westchester. Family, friends, and colleagues attended to celebrate these individuals’ contributions to improving the lives of children, youth, and families in Westchester County.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins remarked on the significance of the event: “The Youth Bureau’s annual Shero Awards is a powerful tribute to those making a lasting impact in their communities. This event not only recognizes the dedication and leadership of women who champion the well-being of young people but also serves as an inspiration for future generations.”
Youth Bureau Executive Director Ernest McFadden emphasized the importance of recognizing these women: “As we gather to celebrate these remarkable women who have shaped, inspired and empowered the lives of so many young people through their work and communities, so we are inspired ourselves.”
Youth Board Chair Dr. Alexandria Connally quoted Eleanor Roosevelt in her remarks: “Eleanor Roosevelt said, ‘A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.’ These women are a beacon of light that brighten our community.”
