Westchester County is under a Heat Advisory on Friday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. An Air Quality Alert will also be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Forecasters say that heat and humidity could make outdoor temperatures feel as high as 105 degrees during this period. Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 90s Saturday afternoon, with some relief overnight.
The forecast calls for showers and scattered thunderstorms mainly on Friday afternoon and early evening. Some storms may bring isolated or scattered damaging wind gusts, potentially causing downed trees, tree limbs, and power outages.
There is also a risk of locally heavy rain from thunderstorms, which could lead to isolated flash flooding where downpours move slowly or repeat over the same area.
The Westchester County Health Department has issued several safety recommendations: “drink lots of water, avoid over-exertion, check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbors, and to be sure any animals housed outdoors have ample access to shade and water. Residents should never leave children or pets in a closed car, where temperatures can soar to dangerous levels very quickly.”
Residents without air conditioning are encouraged to use cooling centers if their homes become too warm. Information about local cooling center locations is available at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/weather/cooling/
