Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has issued a statement following the conviction of Haseem Jenkins for the murder of Maria Coto, a worker with the Department of Social Services (DSS).

“The Conviction of Haseem Jenkins brings a measure of justice for Maria Coto — a dedicated Westchester County employee whose life was stolen in a brutal and senseless act of violence while she was performing her duty serving the people of Westchester County.

“Maria devoted her career to helping others. She deserved to come home safely. Nothing will ever fully heal the pain of this loss for her family, her friends and her colleagues in the Department of Social Services. Maria embodied the very best of public service. Our hearts remain with them, and we continue to grieve with them.”

The case centers on an incident in which Maria Coto lost her life while carrying out her responsibilities as a DSS employee. The conviction is seen by county officials as an important step toward justice for those affected by her death.
