The Westchester County Health Department has announced the temporary closure of several beaches in New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, and Rye due to recent rainfall. The decision comes after 0.67 inches of rain fell over the last 24 hours.

In New Rochelle, Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Beach Club, Greentree Country Club, and Surf Club on the Sound are affected. In Mamaroneck, Harbor Island Park, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, and Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club are closed. Additionally, Coveleigh Club in Rye is also shut.

The closures are a precautionary measure against bacterial contamination caused by road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches. The health department advises beachgoers to avoid water activities at these locations today. The beaches may reopen tomorrow if conditions improve.

“The County remains committed to maintaining high standards of environmental health and safety across its recreational facilities.”
