Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has announced a $1 million funding initiative for the Mayfair Apartments in Greenburgh. This funding, sourced from New York State’s County Infrastructure Grant Program, is aimed at creating 62 affordable senior rental units and enhancing local infrastructure with new sidewalks and improved drainage.
Ken Jenkins emphasized the importance of providing fair and affordable housing opportunities in Westchester. He stated, “Creating fair and affordable housing opportunities for all of our residents in Westchester is a keystone of this administration. The Mayfair Apartments in Greenburgh is a great example of the County seeing the potential in an underdeveloped property, and transforming it into a complex that will pay dividends to our residents for years to come. We want to thank Governor Kathy Hochul for her efforts in securing $1 million in funding for this second phase of construction, which will allow us to add an additional 62 units of housing for our seniors with low and moderate incomes.”
Blanca Lopez, Commissioner of the Westchester County Planning Department, expressed excitement about receiving the grant. She said: “On behalf of the Planning Department, we are thrilled that Westchester County has been awarded $1 million through New York State’s County Infrastructure Program. Director of Community Development Leonard Gruenfeld dedicated significant effort to preparing a strong application that identified key infrastructure projects aligned with our long-term planning goals. These funds will not only support the development of new affordable housing as part of Phase II of the Mayfair Apartments located in the Town of Greenburgh and adjacent to Westchester Community College—but will also enhance neighborhood connectivity through the installation of new sidewalks and critical drainage improvements around the Mayfair area.”
The second phase involves converting a former community center into 62 senior rental units. Additionally, over one mile of new sidewalks will be constructed along roads connecting SUNY Westchester Community College to Knollwood Road, extending towards existing pathways near I-287. These enhancements include upgraded drainage systems designed to provide safer pedestrian routes during storms.
Previously known as the WestHELP Greenburgh Homeless Shelter on Westchester Community College Campus, this site was initially redeveloped into 74 affordable senior rental units back in September 2021 as part of Phase 1.
