Westchester hosts successful clean energy fair attracting over 325 attendees

The Westchester County Office of Economic Development and Sustainable Westchester recently held the second Clean Energy Job and Resource Fair on November 19. The event attracted over 325 job seekers interested in exploring careers in clean energy. Attendees had the chance to engage with employers from various sectors, including solar, heat pumps, and geothermal technology, and participate in skills training programs.

The fair featured two workshops: a panel discussion titled "Jumpstarting Your Clean Energy Career" and a session called "Conversation with an Expert," which included Andre Peart, CEO of Untapped Solutions. Participants also had access to a job match specialist to help connect them with potential employers.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer commented on the event's success: “The success of the second Clean Energy Job and Resource Fair is a testament to the impressive progress of the clean energy sector in Westchester County. From first-class skills training programs to employers who are experiencing rapid growth, our clean energy economy is thriving and we are delighted to have had so many talented job seekers come out to learn more about opportunities in this exciting field.”

Bridget Gibbons, Director of Economic Development for Westchester County, expressed her satisfaction with the turnout: “We were impressed by the diversity of the job seekers who came to learn more about clean energy skills training and employment opportunities. From individuals looking to enter the workforce to seasoned professionals interested in transferring their skills to a new industry, the job seekers who joined us were curious, enthusiastic, and ready to engage with the participating employers.”

Yasmin Najjar from Sustainable Westchester highlighted the importance of climate careers: “Climate careers are a fast-growing area of individual opportunity and a critical part of the clean energy transition. Through our partnership with the Westchester County Office of Economic Development, Sustainable Westchester is connecting employers and job seekers, who are united in their commitment to this vital work. Together, we can shape a more prosperous, equitable, and healthy region.”
