Westchester County Executive George Latimer has announced the "Keys to Safe Driving" program, which will be held during Older Driver Safety Week from December 2 through December 6, 2024. This initiative consists of five free sessions organized by the County's Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS). The program aims to provide older drivers with essential tools and techniques to maintain road safety.

The sessions are presented by DSPS' Older Driver Coalition, which has been offering these educational events for over two decades. They focus on helping older drivers stay safe while driving and discuss when it might be appropriate to stop driving. Additionally, they explore alternative transportation options available for seniors who choose to give up driving.

Latimer emphasized the importance of this initiative, especially during the holiday season when roads are busier and weather conditions can be challenging. He stated: “Promoting safe driving for our older adults is particularly important now that we are in the holiday season, with more drivers on the road as well as the potential for inclement weather. We hope that our older adults as well as their families and caregivers take advantage of this informative program to ensure driver, passenger and pedestrian safety now and throughout the year.”

The sessions will cover similar content at each location. While walk-ins are accepted, registration is encouraged. Participants can sign up by contacting the respective site coordinators listed below:
