CITY OF WHITE PLAINS: Summer 2020 @ White Plains Recreation

Summerreading

City of White Plains issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.

As we close out the summer, we wanted to report to our residents the results of the Recreation & Parks Department summer programs and activities and to advise you of what we see as great success considering the COVID situation.

We offered programs and opened facilities when allowable and followed strict COVID guidelines daily to ensure that both staff and patrons were kept safe and comfortable. We have offered a very successful Farmers Market each week since mid-May with social distancing guidelines in effect and great overall compliance.

On Monday, August 31st, Kittrell and Gardella Pools closed for the season with no incidents and perfect health department inspections.

This year, the Recreation & Parks Department sold 784 pool passes and had an average attendance of 130 people each day; 7 days per week.

On Friday, August 28th we finished up our camp programs. We had over 200 campers with an average of 100 kids per day for 4 weeks and 50 per day for an additional 4 weeks.

We had 1 reported positive COVID individual on a softball team. Team play was promptly suspended for 2 weeks. It resumed without incident or any further cases. 36 softball teams continue to play 4 X per week since July 1.

Since our tennis courts opened in May, we have had 222 season pass holders plus individuals who bought passes passes, with an average of 75 visits per day.

32 high school age youth are currently participating in a speed clinic meeting for 12 separate sessions.

We held 3 drive-in movies in June and have 2 more scheduled for September. The September movie dates sold out within an hour.

We will open the Senior Center 4 days per week beginning Tuesday 9/8.

Our full-time and hourly staff have been diligent and remain committed to recreating White Plains residents safely. On September 1st we began registration for fall programs. All COVID precautions will remain in effect for our fall programming.
