Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has announced that Playland Amusement Park will open for the 2025 season during Memorial Day Weekend. This event marks the beginning of summer activities in the region.
“Summer in Westchester means a summer spent at Playland – and this summer will be no different,” Jenkins stated. However, he noted that the availability of rides is still being determined due to damage caused by Standard Amusements’ breach of contract and abandonment of the park earlier this year.
Jenkins expressed disappointment over the condition left by Standard Amusements, criticizing a previous agreement made under former County Executive Rob Astorino. “The condition Standard Amusements left Playland in is deeply disappointing, and reflects the consequences of a poorly structured agreement made during a prior administration,” Jenkins said.
The County is collaborating with the New York State Department of Labor to inspect and certify rides before they can be opened to the public. The decision on when rides will open rests with the state authorities.
Despite uncertainties regarding some attractions, Playland Park will offer food concessions, games, and entertainment over Memorial Day Weekend. Additionally, Playland Beach will open as planned, while the pool is scheduled to open in June alongside other county pools.
In an effort to enhance accessibility, parking fees at Playland will be reduced to $10, and admission will be free for Memorial Day Weekend. “As we work through this 2025 season, Playland will be totally free Memorial Day weekend for people to enjoy,” Jenkins mentioned.
The County acknowledged various contributors including Zamperla and local departments who ensure park operations run smoothly. Community support was also appreciated for its patience and enthusiasm.
For those interested in employment opportunities at Playland Park, job fairs are scheduled for May 10 and June 7 at the Westchester County Center’s Exhibition Hall, and May 17 at Playland Park itself. Positions available include park management roles such as ride operators and lifeguards. Salaries start at $16.60 per hour with potential additional job fairs forthcoming.
Attendees must bring valid photo identification, with minors needing parental accompaniment if completing applications on-site. Those opting for direct deposit payment should bring necessary banking documents.
Playland Park is located at 1 Playland Parkway in Rye, while job fair attendees can find free parking at Westchester County Center situated at 198 Central Avenue in White Plains.
