Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, alongside Coaster the Dragon, marked the official opening of Playland Amusement Park for the 2025 season with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was hosted by Jimmy Fink from 107.1 The Peak and featured performances by the Rivertowns Young Marines, Westchester County Youth Poet Laureate Harmony Hopwood, and the Rye High School Drumline.
The park will offer free admission, rides, and parking during Memorial Day Weekend from May 24 to May 26. Operating hours are from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. each day.
Ken Jenkins expressed gratitude for the collective effort that made the opening possible: “Opening this park in time for Memorial Day Weekend wasn’t easy. It took hustle. It took late nights, early mornings, and a team of County employees who refused to give anything less than 100 percent.” He emphasized that “what you see here today is a $150 million investment in you, in our history, in our children and grandchildren.”
In Kiddyland, eight out of twenty-one rides are available for young visitors. Five major attractions are operational for thrill-seekers, including two new rides. However, some sections of the park remain closed as they are opened gradually throughout the season.
Two newer rides will be accessible; however, Jack the Puppeteer remains out of service due to mechanical issues pending repair.
Entertainment includes live performances throughout Playland and access to the Westchester Children’s Museum over the weekend.
The Arcade Game Room offers most games for free play while guests can enjoy shooting hoops at the Basketball Game area near Double Shot Ride without charge during opening weekend.
Food vendors will provide various culinary options ranging from comfort foods to summer treats along with Tiki Beach Pier Restaurant on the boardwalk offering beachfront dining experiences or mobile app orders delivered beachside.
Playland continues its legacy as a hub for fun and nostalgia as it opens another season filled with potential memories.
