The City of New Rochelle announced on Apr. 21 that it is accepting applications for the New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority Board of Commissioners (NRMHA) until Friday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m.
The NRMHA plays a key role in providing safe and affordable housing to low- and moderate-income residents in New Rochelle. The agency manages public housing family units, senior communities, and administers federal rental assistance programs.
Established in 1941 under New York State law, the NRMHA oversees properties including the Peter Bracey Apartments on Main Street, La Rochelle Manor on Lockwood Avenue, and Queen City Towers on Sickles Avenue. It also works with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to expand access to stable housing.
Wilfredo Melendez, City Manager, said: “Access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is fundamental to a strong and thriving community. The work of the New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority ensures that residents of all ages—from families to seniors—have the support they need to live with dignity and security. We are looking for individuals who are ready to contribute their expertise and passion to help shape the future of housing in the City.”
Board members are responsible for setting policy, approving budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations, overseeing strategic plans for capital improvements, providing financial oversight, attending meetings and hearings, and representing public interests. Applicants should have ties to New Rochelle or relevant professional experience such as property management or real estate development; expertise in finance or accounting; legal or governance knowledge; or social services leadership.
Interested candidates can apply online at https://www.newrochelleny.gov/nrmha or submit paper applications at City Hall during business hours before May 8.
