The City of New Rochelle has issued a statement addressing concerns about a potential “teen takeover” event reportedly being planned in the area. According to city officials, several social media posts have circulated referencing the possibility of such an event occurring in New Rochelle on the evening of February 17, 2026.

These types of gatherings, which are typically organized through social media platforms, have been documented in other locations across the country. Officials noted that some past incidents—such as one at Bay Plaza on February 16, 2026—have resulted in violence and vandalism that required police intervention.

In response to these reports, the New Rochelle Police Department is monitoring online activity related to the event and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies as necessary. The department stated: “Any activity that jeopardizes residents, businesses or visitors to New Rochelle will be swiftly addressed to the fullest extent of the law.”

The city also urged parents and guardians to discuss with their children the dangers associated with participating in so-called “takeover events.” As stated in their release: “They necessitate police intervention, have been associated with incidents of violence and property damage, and they pose serious safety risks.”

Residents and business owners are encouraged to remain alert and report any credible information regarding possible events to local authorities.
