The City of New Rochelle has introduced a new local law aimed at supporting military personnel returning from deployment. The measure, known as the Deployed Military Exception, provides servicemembers with an extra 90 days to pay their property taxes after coming back from active duty, without incurring penalties or interest.
City officials stated that this initiative is intended to ease the financial challenges often faced by military families. Many servicemembers experience reduced household income during deployment while regular expenses continue.
Mayor Yadira Ramos-Herbert commented on the new law: “The members of our US Armed Forces are a valued part of the community of New Rochelle. This law reflects our responsibility to support our service members and allow them to carry one less worry as they perform their duties away from home.”
To qualify for the extension, returning servicemembers must provide their deployment orders when applying for the benefit.
