The New Rochelle Fire Department held its annual Awards and Promotions Ceremony on October 15, honoring firefighters for their service and remembering those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Mayor Ramos Herbert spoke at the event, thanking department members for their dedication. “who really run towards danger. All of the things we run away from, you do without question, with bravery and professionalism,” she said, acknowledging their commitment to the community.
City Manager Wilfredo Melendez also addressed attendees. “Every day, firefighters risk their lives to protect others,” he stated. “They respond without hesitation any time of the day, regardless of the weather, the danger in front of them. We celebrate that dedication, that courage, that extraordinary commitment that defines this department.”
Fire Commissioner and Chief Andy Sandor led the ceremony.
Several promotions were announced during the event. Frank Gagliardo, Michael Petrone, and Christopher Mohrmann were promoted to Fire Captain. Michael Amori and Joseph Renda advanced to Fire Lieutenant.
Awards presented included Empress Ambulance Plaque Presentation; Honor Guard Awards given to FF Dante Bongiorni, FF Raphael Gibbs, and FF Richard Schiavone; Arthur Luce Klein Award to Lt. Christian Carozo; Captain Andy DiMaggio Award to Capt. Frank Gagliardo; and Fire Commissioner’s Award to FF Daryl Moxey.
