The City of Mount Vernon has announced an administrative error related to Ordinance #1, which was adopted on December 10, 2025. The ordinance, titled “2025 Amendment to Sewer Rents and Refuse Sustainability Fees – Chapter 126, Article VI,” included incorrect fee increases for certain groups.

According to the city’s statement, the Low-Income Senior Residential Fee was mistakenly raised from $50 to $110 instead of the intended $55. The Non-Profit Refuse Fee for properties of 0.51 acre or more was also incorrectly increased from $650 to $1,200 rather than the planned $725.

The city is taking steps to address these errors. “Any residents or organizations affected by these incorrect fee amounts will receive an appropriate refund or account credit,” the statement said.

“The City of Mount Vernon regrets this error and appreciates the public’s understanding,” officials added.

Mount Vernon operates with a mayor-council form of government and provides various municipal services through its departments, including support for seniors and non-profit organizations in the community. More information about city services can be found on its official website. The city is located in Westchester County, New York, and maintains a focus on community planning and development.
