Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins has issued a statement following the death of Herman S. Geist, acknowledging his significant contributions to public service. Geist was recognized as the first Chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, where he played a crucial role in shaping leadership in the region.

Jenkins highlighted Geist’s “wisdom, vision, and dedication” during his tenure and noted his impact on both government and community initiatives. Beyond his governmental roles, Geist co-founded the Westchester Parks Foundation and served as a Board Trustee for the Westchester Medical Center. He also chaired the County Bi-Centennial Commission.

Reflecting on Geist’s life journey from WWII lieutenant to influential civic leader, Jenkins expressed condolences: “On behalf of a grateful County, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and all who were touched by his leadership, integrity, and service.”

Geist’s legacy is remembered fondly by those in Westchester County who benefited from his leadership.
