Westchester County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins recently delivered his inaugural 2025 State of the County address from the Board of Legislators Chambers. In his speech, Jenkins emphasized the county’s enduring hope, progress, and stability amidst global uncertainties. Quoting Poet Laureate Phylisha Villanueva, Jenkins painted a picture of the county’s evolving identity, stating, “This is legacy covered by ancestral winds, a generational ebb and flow continuously rising like rain returning to the sky…”
Jenkins highlighted his administration’s achievements in their initial 100 days, showcasing efforts characterized by action, advocacy, and accountability. A significant development he announced was a partnership with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to bring advanced engineering education to the region. “This is more than just a partnership. It’s a multi-year commitment to creating new opportunities for our local talent pool—especially young people and working professionals—to access cutting-edge STEM education, meet the demands of today’s workforce, and fuel the growth of our economy,” Jenkins declared.
He also addressed investments in housing and infrastructure, the inauguration of a Mental Health Safety Net Clinic in White Plains slated for this summer, and the county’s plans to modernize the Westchester County Airport terminal without expanding its capacity. He remarked, “This is an exciting step forward. To offer a seat, a cup of coffee, and a bathroom—we are putting people first.”
Jenkins reaffirmed his commitment to reopening Playland for the 2025 season despite legal challenges. Closing his address, Jenkins emphasized community and leadership with another quote from Villanueva: “Hope for us is a deep current. Leadership that sounds like care and feels like courage.”
