Registration for the Hastings-on-Hudson Spring Afterschool Program will open on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 9 a.m. Families can register online at http://HOHRec.online or in person at the James Harmon Community Center.
The program offers a variety of courses for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Classes include art, science, engineering, games, cooking, crafts, and more. For example, “Art Jumble” introduces younger children to painting and crafting inspired by spring themes. “Backyard Bugs” allows students to learn about insects through stories and hands-on projects while exploring science concepts. Chess lessons are available for all skill levels from kindergarten to fourth grade.
Other offerings include “Crayola Wild World,” where children create animal-inspired art and learn about wildlife conservation; “Engineering Explorers,” which teaches design and problem-solving skills; and “Fun With Games,” focused on classic playground and board games.
Cooking is featured in “Just Desserts,” where participants make and decorate sweet treats. The “Mini Makers Magic Workshop” encourages creative building projects with basic engineering skills. Science enthusiasts can join “Phreaky Physics” to explore energy and mechanics through experiments.
Outdoor activities are also part of the program with the “Outdoor Adventure” class in Hillside Woods that includes scavenger hunts and hiking. Crafting is highlighted in “Spring into Crafts,” offering new projects each week. Technology meets creativity in the “Stop Motion Innovation Studio,” where students produce their own animated films.
For those interested in magic, “The Magician’s Apprenticeship” provides instruction on classic tricks with props included.
