A snow emergency remains in effect for the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson as a blizzard warning from the National Weather Service continues until 6 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026. Local officials have extended the Westchester County travel ban through the same period and are urging residents to stay home and off the roads.
All village offices will be closed on Monday, February 23. Activities at the James Harmon Community Center, including evening Tai Chi classes, are canceled. There will be no garbage collection on Monday or Tuesday; instead, Monday’s pick-up is rescheduled for Thursday, February 26, and Tuesday’s for Friday, February 27. Residents are asked to bring their garbage containers to the curb. Recycling services are canceled for this week.
The Hastings Public Library and public schools will also be closed on Monday due to hazardous conditions. Alternate side of the street parking rules will be enforced to assist with snow removal efforts.
Residents and business owners are reminded to clear sidewalks within 12 hours after snowfall ends but not to shovel snow back into streets or onto neighboring properties or vehicles. Fire hydrants should be kept clear of snow whenever possible.
Bee Line bus service is suspended until Tuesday, February 24 at 10 a.m.
Officials have ordered that vehicles be removed from designated public streets by noon on Sunday, February 22. Specific areas affected include sections of Washington Avenue, Warburton Avenue Bridge, Main Street, Spring Street, North Street, Southside Avenue, Maple Avenue, Rosedale Avenue, Hillside Avenue, and Mount Hope Boulevard. Some municipal lots remain available for off-street parking; drivers should use only permitted sections as outlined by local authorities.
Residents are encouraged to park in driveways rather than on roads and not to call police regarding street plowing schedules; main roads will be cleared first followed by secondary roads.
The Chief of Police may issue additional directives as needed for public safety. “Be patient. The DPW WILL GET TO YOUR STREET,” officials stated in their communication.
In case of power outages or downed wires—which may be hidden under snow—residents should notify Con Edison at 1-800-75-ConEd and avoid approaching any wires or attempting to move them. If a power line falls on a vehicle, occupants should remain inside until emergency personnel arrive.
For emergencies requiring immediate assistance, residents should call 911 only.
Authorities advise keeping cell phones charged and having extra batteries available for flashlights and radios during potential outages. Candle use is discouraged; if used during outages, flames must be kept away from combustible materials. Residents are urged to check on neighbors who may need help and avoid going out unless necessary.
